Beyond the Classroom

Our extracurricular activities are vital to our mission of developing well-rounded, global citizens. Our dedicated team fosters exceptional relationships with students, ensuring each child experiences a unique journey.

Opening Minds Programme

This programme is mandatory for students from Year 7 to Year 10 (6ème to 3ème) and covers diverse topics such as Chinese Calligraphy, Molecular Science, and Astronomy. The programme encourages students to ask questions and think critically. Students choose two classes per term in mixed-age groups.

Visual and Performing Arts

At LIL, the visual and performing arts are essential to our curriculum and student well-being. We offer a choir, a student-led Music Committee, and the LIL Band, which strengthen community bonds and encourage collaboration. Annual events like Music Day and the Talent Show highlight our students’ strengths. We collaborate with external companies for projects like the Manufacto Project with Hermes and Goldfinger Design and we are currently organising musical theatre workshops with Arts International. Brent Music Service also practices at our school, and our students are invited to participate in their choir. Our annual Arts Festival, tHrIVE, showcases student creativity and inspiration.

Sports

Sport is an integral part of our curriculum, enhancing student well-being and promoting values of tolerance, respect, and teamwork. Our exceptional facilities, built in 2014, support diverse skill development for all students. Sport is also a key component of our After School Programme, offering over 20 activities throughout the year. We host community sports events, including our annual Sports Day at Fryent Country Park, and fun competitions between staff and students.

Outdoor Learning

Students benefit from our five-acre, green campus just two tube stops from Baker Street. Exploring the natural surroundings nurtures creativity. Each week, Early Years (EYFS) students participate in Forest Days, interacting with plants and animals. Secondary students have access to outdoor facilities for sports and recreation, and Fryent Park, a five-minute walk away, offers 103 hectares of countryside for Sports Day and other events.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award promotes practical experiences and life skills. Operating in over 140 countries, it has engaged more than 8 million young people in skill-building, service, physical recreation, and adventurous journeys. Over 100 of our students participate in the programme. This award which focuses on student commitment, goals, and achievement, is highly valued by universities and employers.

Intensive Study Weeks

We offer four-day study sessions during breaks to help students prepare for exams and further studies. These sessions, taught by our own teachers are open to all students.

Extended Project Qualification

For students applying to UK universities through UCAS, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a university-style course taken alongside the regular curriculum. It allows students to research a topic of their choice, even if it’s outside their current areas of study, demonstrating their interest in their chosen field. A supervisor provides regular guidance and support. The EPQ culminates in a 5000-word essay or report and a presentation of findings

Language Trips

Our Secondary students, who study a third language—Spanish, German, or Mandarin—can participate in international trips to practice their language skills. These immersive experiences, which have included travel to China, Germany, Guatemala, and Spain, help students grasp the culture and enhance their motivation for language learning.

Service Learning

Year 12 (Première) students have the opportunity to participate in service-learning trips abroad after a application and preparation process. Recent trips to Laos and Nepal involved staying with local families and working on construction and development projects under the guidance of humanitarian organizations and our teachers. These experiences offer valuable personal growth and cultural insights.
