Early Years Foundation Programme
Two Languages Simultaneously
At Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill we have reimagined and pushed the boundaries of a typical nursery environment. Our unique Early Years dual-language immersion programme is open to children from the age of three. They are guided by two qualified teachers in the classroom who each use their mother tongue. This setting creates the ideal conditions for bilingualism to flourish naturally in a safe and nurturing environment. Within a short period of time, children effortlessly switch from one language to the other with each teacher and acquire the culture and love of each language.
We are an award-winning independent school in north London, known for its outstanding education and dedication to personal development. The school provides a bilingual curriculum for ages 3 to 18 in English and French that develops creativity, resilience, and respect for different cultures. Students leave us as well-rounded, open-minded global citizens, prepared to thrive in an interconnected world.
There is no English or French language requirement for entry into our EYFS programme.
Double the Language, Multiply the Possibilities
Research shows that children who learn more than one language at a young age gain enhanced cognitive abilities, including problem-solving, concentration, and conflict management. Our bilingual programme is carefully designed to nurture these skills naturally and joyfully.
What Makes Our Programme Unique?
Dual Language Immersion: Each classroom has two qualified teachers – one English-speaking and one French-speaking – who guide children in their native tongue. Through play and exploration, children effortlessly acquire fluency in both languages, developing a nuanced perspective of the world
Child-Led Learning: We build on children’s ideas and interests, offering open-ended learning opportunities that inspire curiosity and independence
Forest Days: Weekly outdoor experiences nurture creativity and respect for nature, as children explore the seasons, weather, and wildlife on our expansive 5-acre campus
Curriculum and Learning Areas
Our curriculum, guided by the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, focuses on the seven core learning areas:
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Literacy
Our well-balanced day blends adult-led activities, independent play, and outdoor exploration. Children enjoy a mix of story-time, project-based learning, and creative play to keep them engaged and inspired.
Beyond Early Years
We teach students from ages 3 to 18. As children grow they transition seamlessly into our Primary School and then into our Secondary School to follow either the International Track, which leads to the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), or the French Track, culminating in the French Bac. The IBDP requires students to master six subjects at Sixth Form level, and provides academic breadth and depth that goes beyond the three or four A-Levels offered in the British curriculum.
Great Oaks from Little Acorns Grow
100% of our graduates applying to higher education receive at least one offer from prestigious universities in the UK and around the world: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, King’s College, Warwick, as well as McGill, Cornell, and UCLA.
Through the challenge of forming ideas and representations in English and French, our students develop a nuanced view of the world and a more open mind. The acquisition of early fluency in two languages enhances cognitive abilities and prepares them for success in an increasingly interconnected world. By building on the foundational skills acquired in our Early Years Programme, your child will be equipped to succeed academically and personally at leading universities and beyond.
