Service Learning, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Linguistic trips

Service Learning Trips/Travel Programme

Beyond the classroom, we offer our secondary school students the chance to learn in the real world, in particular through local or global community service. Through this ambitious programme we want them to develop a sense of reality, open mindedness and sensitivity to the challenges of our times.

In October this year, alongside humanitarian organizations, 40 of our Première/Year 12 students were involved in construction and local development projects in Laos and Nepal. Our school also offers the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award programme.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The World’s Premier Activity Programme

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences, life skills, and fun. It operates in over 140 countries and has encouraged more than 8 million young people to improve their Skills, Service, and Physical Recreation and to complete adventurous journeys. Universities and employers look favourably on Bronze, Silver, or Gold International Awards because they demonstrate a student’s commitment to goal setting and achievement.

As the first three sections in the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award are already part of a LIL education and our students love the opportunities provided for them in the outdoors it made perfect sense to combine the LIL After School Programme and the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award to add coherence and opportunity to our students non academic programme.

Take a look at some pictures of our first Bronze Award expedition which took place in June 2017 in Epping Forest.

Linguistic trips

Our Secondary students learn a 3rd language which they choose between German, Spanish and Chinese. We organize trips overseas so they may practice in real what they have learned in class. These total immersion trips allow them to fully grasp the culture of the language they have chosen and help motivate them on their path to learning.

This year our students travelled to Guatemala and China.

Small group language classes in Guatemala.

After language classes, cultural visits in Beijing.
